Community Round Case Studies
Success stories about companies that let their communities invest
Case studies are social proof for products that are too complex to be social-proofed by customer testimonials alone.
As a storytelling medium, a case study is a great way to put a human face behind the transformation promised by B2B products, whose beneficiaries are in fact humans (as opposed to faceless “businesses,” aka the second B in B2B).
Wefunder is the largest funding platform for startups and small businesses to raise money from their communities. They invented Community Rounds (fka “equity crowdfunding”) ten years ago, and now 1M+ people use their product to invest in startups they love.
Wefunder commissioned me to write a series of case studies to showcase the most epic companies that raised Community Rounds on their platform in the last year, and to introduce new language (“Community Round”) to the market.
Over 2 quarters, I interviewed handpicked founders and operators from Seed to Series B about the “why” and “how” behind their decisions to raise up to $5M from their customers, fans, and community members.
With a lean, asynchronous team comprising myself, a designer, and an engineer, we published 8 Case Studies, an About page, and a messaging hierarchy for communityround.com.
My contributions beyond content creation included design direction, project management, and QA.
In addition to producing these longform pieces, I built Wefunder a Testimonial Library and a Video Excerpt Catalog of 100+ clips, tagged by sentiment and fully approved by the featured speakers, for their Sales and Marketing teams to use.
